Photo Moon, Iris, and a supernova

The photo opening is today one of the few stolen from the bad weather of the first days of the year. The moon had just passed the first phase of the fourth night of January 13. I've taken while the fog invades the sky, with Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope 20cm reduced at f / 5, developing 50 poses taken with the Canon 350D. More photos of the moon on January 13 and 12 are on this album on Facebook.

Today the planet (7) Iris is the minimum distance from Earth (1.17 AU), and 24 will be in opposition to the Sun The second half of January is certainly a good time for observing this asteroid, which is located in the constellation Cancer, and whose magnitude reaches its value +7.9. In practice, knowing where to look, it can also be seen with binoculars. Ephemeris (note, these days the pages of the Minor Planet Center sometimes do not work).

A supernova, SN 2011B was discovered in the galaxy NGC 2655. He reached the magnitude +14.5 and you can photograph at any time of night, as circumpolar. More details on supernovae.net . Kathryn Gray is a Canadian girl of 10 years that a few days ago he surprised all those interested in astronomy has also discovered her a supernova ( Sky & Telescope and Universe Today ).

In an article last week I described my experience with the unfortunate partial eclipse of the Sun January 4 . There 's been best friend Cristian Fattinnanzi, the author of this wonderful animation And to Angelo Angeletti, who made a second film . More beautiful photos of the eclipse are on Astronomy Picture Of the Day . Meanwhile, stunning images of the solar corona has come from the internal probe Solar Dynamics Observatory . Of note is a beautiful image of the solar halo in the sky of Stockholm ( APOD), an incredible green flash photographed from Tenerife ( APOD) and a analemma taken in Hungary (APOD ).

2010 it was already closed for two weeks, but it's not too late to see this beautiful gallery of astronomical images and spatial dello scorso anno.
